Half Model of a Fireship

Geheel beplankt spantmodel (stuurboord). De huid is gedeeltelijk verwijderd om de inrichting te tonen. Drie niveau's: op blokken ligt het zeer lage onderdek, waarop twee vuurovens zijn aangebracht; halfdek en bakdek, op het bakdek een schoorsteen en braadspil; bovencampanje. Een goot verbindt beide vuurovens en heeft twee vertakkingen naar openingen in de huid net onder het onderste barkhout. Op het onderdek liggen drie onbekende peervormige objecten. Over de kuil liggen dekbalken. Rond achterschip met een valpoort. De zeeg loopt naar voren en achter op, twee barkhouten en één reehout. Rondspant met platte bodem. Dit model is praktisch identiek aan NG-MC-429.

Entry

Fully planked frame model of the starboard side of a vessel, mounted on a rectangular wooden backboard.

The side of the ship is planked on frames with most of the planks below the waterline left out to show the detailed interior. In the hold are two large fire chests connected by a trough that is suspended from the deck beams. Three pear-shaped objects, representing bags with flammable liquid, hang from the deck beams. On the forecastle a chimney and a windlass are depicted. The stempost is curved. One port (most likely used as an escape hatch) is cut into the round stern. The sheer rises towards both ends. Two wales and a sheer rail are indicated. The sternpost is straight. The shape of the hull is that of a hooker, round and flat-bottomed. The position of a single mast is shown in a truncated form.

According to Obreen this fireship was converted from a fishing hooker in 1799.1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 428.

The model is practically identical to model NG-MC-429.

Scale unknown.
