Model van een dubbele kaapstander in een houten frame dat twee dekken voorstelt. De bovenste kaapstander is voor acht windbomen, de onderste voor tien. Beide hebben vier pallen in de voet tegen het teruglopen. De bovenste kaapstander heeft een holle houten koning, waarbinnen de verlengde metalen koning van de onderste kaapstander loopt; met twee ijzeren spieën door de bovenste trommel worden de twee koningen aan elkaar verbonden, zodat de twee kaapstanders één worden. Als de spieën verwijderd zijn, heeft men twee onafhankelijke kaapstanders. Schaal 1:10 (schatting).

Entry

Construction model of a double capstan in a wooden frame representing two decks of a ship.

The upper barrel is for eight bars, the larger lower barrel for ten. Both have four pawls in the heel to prevent them from turning back. The metal spindle of the lower barrel is extended into the hollow wooden spindle of the upper barrel. In order to achieve one large capstan, the two spindles have been connected with two iron pegs through the upper barrel. With the pegs removed the two barrels can be operated as separate capstans.

One model was added to the Navy Model Room in 1823,1HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, inv. no. 3907, Exh. 25/4/1823 N25, 30/5/1823 N13, 25/6/1823 N17. but two have been found. An identical model (NG-MC-204-2) was not mentioned by Obreen.2J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 204. This capstan was tested on Euridice with good results in 1821.
