President Sukarno on Tour

Alfred Ley was born in the Dutch East Indies to a German father and a Chinese-Indonesian mother. Following the Indonesian struggle for independence (1945-1949), he worked as a photographer for President Sukarno, portraying his relationship with the people. He photographed the Indian president Jawaharlal Nehru from behind. Nehru also witnessed the exceptional rapport between Sukarno and the people during his state visit to Indonesia.
