Pieter Zöllner, 1859 - 1873

Silver tea set (1859 - 1861) with added coffee pot and stand (1873) and medallions for cattle breeding. P. Zöllner, Rotterdam. In the 19th century, Holland was an agricultural country. Dairy products were a particularly important export commodity. This service belonged to J.D. Preuijt (1801 -1887). The coffee pot and chafingdish were probably presented to him in 1873 to mark fifty years as mayor of the South Holland municipality of Geervliet. Besides being mayor (as well as dyke inspector and member of the provincial assembly) Jan Dirk Preuijt was a successful cattle breeder who regularly won prizes. Mounted on parts of the service are the goldand silver medals which Preuijt had won inthe years 1851 - 1872 at agricultural shows in Holland and abroad.
