Comb or diadem

anoniem, c. 1820 - c. 1830

In the 1820s women wore their hair flat around their faces, with a centre part and pulled into a chignon behind or on top of their heads. Slowly, but surely hairstyles became more elaborate; in turn, the combs grew larger and were worn in the hair like a diadem.
