Parasol with woven motif of flowers and butterflies

At the end of this parasol’s wooden stick is a silver and turquoise crook. Both the mineral and the derived colour turquoise were often used in Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) designs, which were in vogue in Europe between c. 1890 and 1914. The sinuous lines of the silver thread culminating in the turquoise flowers are typical of the genre.

  • Description

    Parasol met zilveren greep met opgelegd draad en ingelegde turkoois. Bespanning van roomwitte zijde met blauwgrijze vlinders en bloemen. Zijde met witte satijnen banden en een brede decorrand met, in glimmend satijn, vele vlinders en in doffe binding grijsblauwe tulebloemen met een rand van zwarte bloesem. Dunne rechte, bruine generfde houten stok. De beklede baleinen hebben bruin geverfde benen knoppen. Knop in L-vorm, de hoek uitspringend, de dwarsbald gebogen en puntig eindigend. Onderaan een ribbelprofiel waaruit onderaan drie zweepslagvormige stelen van opgelegd draad, alle drie met een bloem van turkoois.
