Promenade Dress

anonymous, c. 1869 - c. 1872

A promenade costume was less formal than an evening gown, and was worn in daytime during outdoor activities. In general promenade costumes were made of plain fabric, trimmed with strips in a contrasting colour and embroidery, ribbons or fringe. A surprisingly thin printed cotton fabric was used for this costume.
