Snuffbox

Lazare Antoine Clérin, c. 1752

The flowers on this box are in opaque painted enamel émail peint, whereas the leaves are in translucent enamel émail en basse-taille, which allows the engraved metal background to be seen through a clear, thin glaze of enamel.
