Writing and Dressing Table

Jean François Oeben, c. 1762 - c. 1768

This multifunctional piece of furniture was made in the workshop of Jean-François Oeben, which was continued after his death by his widow, Françoise-Marguerite Vandercruse. Despite her second marriage to Oeben’s apprentice, Jean-Henri Riesener, the workshop remained registered under her name.<br>

Description
Tafel belijmd met meerdere houtsoorten op een eikenhouten kern, met verguld bronzen beslag. De overhoeks geplaatste gestrekt S-vormige poten lopen over in de geschulpte regels. De voorregel bevat in het midden een geholde, terugspringende lade en gebolde zijstukken en is in zijn geheel uitschuifbaar; boven de lade een opklapbaar blad met spiegel. De regels en het blad vertonen velden met bandwerk; op de voorregel en het blad met bloemmotieven en op de zijregels met vierpas- en vlechtmotieven.
