Dance kimono for a geisha

anonymous, 1920 - 1940

Geishas (female entertainers) wore this kind of long kimono to dance in. The water motifs are well-suited to the flowing movements of the dancer. Together with the maple leaves, they refer to the Tatsuta River, where in the autumn the leaves float on the water like coloured brocade.

    Dans-kimono voor geisha (susoshiki), met een versiering op de mouwen en benedenkant van verspreide esdoornbladeren in gestileerde waterpartijen, refererend aan de rivier Tatsuta, beroemd om dit herfst-tafereel. Zwarte crêpe zijde (chirimen) met een geschilderde yuzen versiering in wit, rood, blauw en groen, met detaillering in zilver- en goudfolie. Voering van lichtgrijze zijde.
