Incense box. Japan. Early 19th century. Stoneware. This incense box is a typical example of the style of tea master Furuta Oribe (1544 - 1615). Characteristic of this style is the asymmetricaldecoration and the green glaze highlighted with dark brown paint. Westendorp bequest.
