Guanyin Crossing the Sea

attributed to He Chaozong, c. 1675 - c. 1699

This large blanc de Chine (whiteware) figure shows Guanyin standing on the waves, underscoring her supernatural powers. The statue is attributed to He Chaozong, the best potter in the county of Dehua, famed for his elegant and beautifully modelled figures.

Beeld van porselein op voetstuk, bedekt met een doorschijnend glazuur. De staande Guanyin heeft haar handen gevouwen voor zich en staat op een wolk; verwerkt in haar hoofdtooi een zittende Buddha Amitabha, omgeven door lotusbloemen. Op de achterzijde gemerkt met het vierkante vervaardigersmerk van He Chaozong. Enkele bakscheuren. Blanc de Chine.
