Toilet Mirror
Joseph Germain Dutalis (1780-1852) and Louis Royer (1793-1868), Brussels, 1828-1829, silver gilt, mirror glass
When Princess Marianne married, her father King William I gifted her a magnificent toilet crafted in the Empire style, with figures based on antiquity. For this commission, the king engaged the best artisans in the southern Netherlands at the time: the goldsmith Dutalis in Brussels and the sculptor Royer from Mechelen. The set comprised a jewellery box, several gilded boxes, and this mirror as a showpiece.
