Garden of the home of R.J. Schimmelpenninck, ambassador of the Batavian Republic, in Auteuil, by J.A. Knip, 1801. Rutger Jan Schimmelpenninck, the ambassador of the Batavian Republic in France, commissioned the Dutch artist J.A. Knip to produce a series of paintings. This work features the 'Jardin de Bagatelle' in Auteuil near Paris. In the distance is Schimmelpenninck's wife. She is accompanied by a gentleman with a parasol, perhaps the French minister of foreign affairs, C.M. Talleyrand.
