Relief for the Post Office at 12 Hyppolytusbuurt in Delft

Jan Schoonhoven (signed by artist), 1958

Jan Schoonhoven made this relief on commission for a new post office in Delft. It hung there high up on the wall against the ceiling. Its structure and colour evoke the atmosphere of Delft’s ancient gothic architecture, while also being very contemporary. Schoonhoven adopted the dripping technique from the American artist Jackson Pollock and his famous ‘drip’ paintings.
