anonymous, anoniem, anonymous, anoniem, 1617
Originally this gate formed the entrance to the forecourt of the monastery of the German Order of Saint John. The cloister complex was thus named ‘Het Duitse Huis’ (The German House). In 1822 the building was put into service as a military hospital. In 1898 the gate was torn down and relocated to the garden of the Rijksmuseum.
