Entry

Model of an anchor, consisting of a shank with a bent arm with flukes at the ends.

The iron anchor ring is covered with puddening of tarred rope. The shank is heavier, the angle of the arms with the shank smaller, and the flukes are broader than is common on anchors of this kind. The anchor stock is missing.

The identification of this model was by a process of elimination and is thus uncertain. According to Obreen this type of anchor was introduced by the Dutch Navy in 1858 and was used in all sizes, with both wooden and iron anchor stocks.1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, p. 108.

Scale (estimate) 1:10.
