Explanatory note

In steengroeven nabij Saint-Acheul werden in 1837 vuurstenen gereedschappen gevonden. Dit leidde later tot erkenning van het stenen tijdperk als belangrijke ontwikkelingsfase in de menselijke geschiedenis.
