Entry

Polychromed wooden half bracket model of the starboard side of a three-masted ship, mounted on a rectangular wooden backboard.

The side of the ship is depicted by ribbands attached to frame moulds. A tier of thirteen gun ports are indicated by white frames. The waist between the forecastle and quarterdeck is closed by a continuous bulwark. The bow features an empty beakhead with two cheeks and a black knighthead next to the bowsprit. The stern has a round tuck and a hollow counter. The model does not have a taffrail or galleries. Below the stern a straight, square-headed rudder is indicated. The sheer rises slightly towards both ends. Two wales and a sheer rail are indicated, painted black. The hull has a slight S-bottom and is painted white below the waterline. The position of three masts and the bowsprit are shown in a truncated form.

Two 32-gun frigates, both measuring 145 feet in length, were built according to the lines shown by this model. Juno and Phoenix were built by Pieter Glavimans Jansz (1768-1850) in Rotterdam in 1797. Juno was stranded in Amboina in 1803.1HNA 1.01.47.36 Admiraliteitscolleges, Losse Aanwinsten, inv. no. 17, Genealogie Asmus.
