Document over de fragmenten van de kanonneerboot No. 2 van J.C.J. van Speyk
Christianus Petrus Eliza Robidé van der Aa, 1800 - 1830
Remains from Van Speyk's gunboat, objects made from remains, pieces of Van Speyk's uniform. After the gunboat had exploded what was left of the vessel was fished out of the Scheldt. The remains were treasured like relics. Objects such as boxes, pens, rings and the like were made and given away as prizes in a lottery in aid of a national monument for Van Speyk. There were nearly a thousand prizes to be won. The proceeds were used to build the Van Speyk lighthouse at Egmond aan Zee. The lottery was organized by Mr C.P.E. Robidé van der Aa (1791-1851), the same man who founded the magazine De Gids with E.J. Potgieter in 1837. Some of the items displayed here appeared in the lottery.
