Powder Chest

Enthoven & Co. (possibly), 1866

Rechthoekige koperen kruitkist met twee handvaten en een rond messing deksel. De binnenzijde is vertind. Het deksel is voorzien van een wervelsluiting, bestaande uit een messing staaf die draait om een bout in het midden van het deksel en zich onder twee nokken op de buitenrand van de opening vastklemt; met de bout wordt hij vervolgens aangedraaid.

Entry

Rectangular copper powder chest with round brass lid and two handles. The interior is tin-coated. The lid has a pressure lock, consisting of a brass bar pivoting on a bolt in the middle of the cover, jamming itself under two notches on the outside of the rim of the opening and tightened by means of the pivot bolt. The pivot bolt has a ring.

This powder chest is obviously a variation of the types illustrated by NG-MC-1020 and NG-MC-1021.

In 1866, new powder chests based on British designs were examined for the ironclad Prins Hendrik der Nederlanden. Enthoven & Co was the firm contracted for their production.
