Drinking Bowl with Odysseus Visiting Circe, Adam van Vianen (I), 1610

Drinking Bowl with Odysseus Visiting Circe, Adam van Vianen (I), 1610

silver (metal), h 3.1cm × d 18.2cm × w 281gr More details

In 1610 Paulus van Vianen visited his brother Adam, who worked as a silversmith in Utrecht. In this dish, made in that year, Adam displays his awareness of the innovations Paulus achieved in Prague. The border has auricular motifs and the wine-cooler in the scene is made up entirely of kwab ornament, although its form is still rather hesitant.
