Transformations: Six Artists from Sweden
Alternatieve titel
Six Artists from Sweden
Uittreksel
Transformations presents contemporary Swedish art jewellery. It highlights six very different artistic approaches with works by Tobias Alm, Sara Borgegård Älgå, Hanna Hedman, Catarina Hällzon, Agnes Larsson, and Märta Mattsson. All the artists are represented in Nationalmuseum's collections. The exhibition can be seen as a report on the most current trends in Swedish art jewellery, but also as a contribution to an on-going discussion of definitions and boundaries. Is art jewellery art or a craft? The new contemporary Swedish art jewellery scene reflects both Swedish and international trends. Much of the discussion in the world of contemporary art, and in society in general environment, gender, class and ethnicity is also relevant to art jewellery. In the art jewellery context the discussion may be subtler and more low key, but it is still sharp and penetrating. And since art jewellery is part of our everyday world, the basis and incentive for new discourses are always present. The fact that jewellery is worn on one's own body, as though it was an extension of one's personality and one's own agenda, also represents a public stance.
