Renaissance to Baroque master drawings from the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm

Uittreksel

"Nationalmuseum, opened in 1792, is one of Europe's oldest art museums. The museum's collection, based on artworks assembled by generations of the Swedish royal family, includes paintings, sculpture, and drawings dating from 1500 to 1900, and decorative arts and design works dating from the Medieval period through the present day. Among these treasures, the drawing collection is widely recognized as a world-leading collection both quantitatively and qualitatively. This exhibition features a selection of approximately 80 drawings from that collection, ranging in date from the Renaissance to the Baroque periods, and presented by region in four sections, Italy, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. Drawing is a medium capable of diverse expression, depending on when and where created, the materials and techniques used, and indeed, why the drawing was created. It is this medium's fresh immediacy that is most fascinating, the sense of being close to the drawing's creator, their thoughts, and the traces of their hand's movements as they bring a light, delicate artistic form to life. Given that drawings are sensitive to changes in light, temperature, and humidity, the utmost care must be taken in both their transport and display. This has meant that drawings from overseas collections are rarely displayed in Japan. Thus, this exhibition is an extremely rare and special moment, presenting an unparalleled number of works from the world-leading Nationalmuseum drawing collection"-- Message (page 4).
