Model van een anker

Model van een 'plattehands-'anker zonder ankerstok. Beide handen zijn parallel aan elkaar gemonteerd op een as, die door het ankerkruis loopt en waarop zij draaien. De platte voorkant van de handen doet het werk van de ankerstok en dwingt de punten van de handen naar beneden. Het model heeft een harp aan het eind van de schacht en een bij het kruis, en een dubbele schalm om de schacht heen. Schaal 1:10 (schatting).

Model of a ‘flat hand’ anchor without stock.

Both flukes are set parallel on an axle, which runs through the crown on which they turn. The flat forward section of the flukes serves as the anchor stock, forcing the pointed end of the fluke into the ground. The model has a shackle at the end of the shank and one at the crown, and a double link around the shank.

A model and a drawing of a ‘flat hand’ anchor were presented in 1879 with a proposal for experiments.
