  • label, on model 1:715 former inventory label

Provenance

…; transferred from the Ministerie van Marine (Department of the Navy), The Hague, to the museum, 1883

Object number: NG-MC-715

Entry

Three empty cylindrical cartridges of different calibres, painted black (NG-MC-715-1, NG-MC-715-2 and NG-MC-715-3.

The bottom is made of copper and is dome shaped. The sides and the flat front facing the projectile are made of tinplate.

Lieutenant H.J. Hugenholz’s cartridges were not accepted in the Netherlands, mainly because it was feared the remains that they left in the barrel would be difficult to remove, and because they easily rusted and could not offer as much protection against humidity as they claimed.1J.M.
