Lovers of virtuoso silverwork also collected objects made of other materials. A fixed component of every collection was vessels made of serpentine, mined in Saxony, Germany, and fashioned into objects there. Silver mounts were then added in the Netherlands. The coat of arms on the lid of this stein indicates that it was made for a member of the Van Wassenaar van Duvenvoirde family.
