Poster Kapitalistische beschaving! Alle macht a/d arbeiders (Capitalist Civilisation! All Power to the Workers)
Willem Papenhuijzen, c. 1920 - c. 1925
Two bleeding labourers’ heads impaled on bayonets: the designer Willem Papenhuijzen opted for an edgy message, depicting capitalist civilization as a gruesome scene of murder. According to the political left, World War I (1914-1918) proved that workers’ lives were being sacrificed to bellicose capitalism. For them, antimilitarism was synonymous with anti-capitalism.
