Een jonge vrouw knielt voor een rijk aangeklede man, beiden symbool voor de ijdelheid. Achter hen knielt een vrouw voor een altaar met een crucifix. Naast de knielende vrouw staat een engel met een lelie, het symbool van reinheid. Op de grond liggen een waaier, kam, schaar en muntgeld, als wereldse symbolen van ijdelheid. Illustratie bij een tekst uit het boek Christelycke Offerande uit 1640. In de tekst wordt een vrouw opgeroepen haar maagdelijkheid te bewaren en niet te bezwijken voor ijdelheid, geld of mannen.
