Hendrikus Theodorus Wijdeveld, 1931-08

In 1930, the Dutch architecture and art magazine Wendingen devoted attention to ‘statistical images, sociological graphics.’ Peter Alma designed the cover and wrote an article for the magazine. He praised the method of statistical images developed in Vienna, which used pictograms (infographics) to depict social developments in an accessible way. Representation was meant to be functional through implification and the omission of extraneous matter and coincidence.
