Persian sabre of Cornelis Tromp, anonymous, c. 1600 - c. 1700

iron (metal), l 104cm More details

This Persian sabre must have had a special significance for Cornelis Tromp, for he had himself immortalized in Roman dress with the weapon in a painting by Abraham Willaerts (in the centre of this display case). Such references to Classical antiquity were extremely common in this period.
