Schrijfkabinet van Gouverneur Janssens

Writing cabinet inlaid with ivory, Andhra Pradesh (India), c. 1800. Indian craftsmen engraved topographical illustrations in these ivory plates after examples, some of which are more well-known than others. One familiar scene is the palace of Bogor (Java), former residence of the governor general. Other plates depict scenes in the Netherlands. The cabinet was owned by J.W. Janssens, governor general in 1811.
