Immediately after the battle the Oude Markt in Brussels became a bustling meeting place for soldiers and other interested parties. There was a lucrative trade in war booty and souvenirs. Jean Sagermans was tasked with processing all the military vehicles from the battlefield. He found this case of pistols in Napoleon’s travelling coach and presented it to his brother who had fought on the French side.
