Model of a Wood Kiln

Model van een houtstoof of stoomkist voor het buigen van planken, op een grondplank. Het is een lange kist met een deur aan ieder eind, verstevigd met ribben rondom over de gehele lengte en staand op twee balken in langsrichting. Een rond gat in de vloerplank aan een kant doet vermoeden dat het model incompleet is: hier heeft oorspronkelijk waarschijnlijk de ketel gestaan.

Model of a wood kiln or steaming box for bending planks, mounted on a wooden base.

The model consists of a long box with a door at either end, reinforced with ribs over the entire length and standing on two beams. A round hole in the base suggests that the model is incomplete: the hole was probably used to mount a boiler.

A kiln of this kind was observed by the Italian engineer Andrea Salvini during his visit to Holland in 1808.1M. Marzari, Progetti per l’imperatore. A similar model of a wood kiln is in the collection of the Musée national de la Marine in Paris.2Paris, Musée national de la Marine, inv. no. MnM 9 PA 16.
