Model of a Lifeboat

Getuigd spantmodel van een enkelriems reddingboot van zes riemen, het geschut en de dreg ontbreken. Het is een overnaadse spitsgat sloep, met gebogen voorsteven en rechte, iets vallende achtersteven. De huid is wit geverfd. Het heeft een dubbele huid, met in de binnenhuid drijfkasten aangebracht; vijf doften, een open kajuit, een klein voorplecht en achterplecht. Het brede roer heeft geen helmstok maar een stuurkwadrant, waarvan de talies ontbreken. Het model is uitgerust met zes riemen, twee boothaken, twee ronde boeien. Het is getuigd met zeilen, de grote mast met een loggerzeil en een fok, de bezaan met een klein driehoekig zeil met giek. Schaal 1:10.

Rigged frame model of a six-oared, single-banked lifeboat, the gun and grapnel are missing.

Clinker-built double-ended launch or whaleboat with a curved raked stem and a straight, slightly raked stern. The planking is painted white. It has a double hull, the inner planking containing buoyancy chambers in the sides. It has five thwarts, an open cockpit, and a small cuddy fore and aft. The broad rudder has a steering quadrant instead of a hand tiller, the tackle is missing. The model has six oars, two boat hooks and two round buoys. The model is rigged with sails, the rig consisting of a mainmast with lugsail and foresail, the mizzen with a small triangular sail with a boom.

At the Werkmanstentoonstelling in The Hague in 1876, Adriaan Rosel obtained a silver medal for his models. This model was mentioned.

In 1865, the Dutch Navy ordered two lifeboats from John White, which were tested in Flushing. They were henceforth adopted as lifeboats C1 and C2 of the Dutch Navy. This model represents lifeboat C2, which was 8.28 metres long and had a 5-cm gun.
