silver, h 17.6cm × l 24.0cm × w 319gr. More details

Located below the deck of this ship are little compartments for storing a variety of spices. These were brought from Asia to the Netherlands by the Dutch East India Company. The box is in the shape of the Mauritius, one of the first Dutch ships to transport spices. The detailing of the vessel, the inscriptions and the scenes are engraved. A special type of burin was used for the more deeply incised text.
