Drinking horn, Anonymous, c. 1600 - c. 1650

glass (material), h 25.0cm × w 5.7cm × d 15.0cm. More details

During the 17th century this glass drinking horn was thought (incorrectly) to date from the Middle Ages. It would thus have been raised with great reverence. Probably during the second half of the 17th century, a member of Van Collen family had his arms engraved on it with the salutation that translates as ‘May you drink your wine with good cheer’.
