Armstoel van eikenhout, met huifkap

Armchair. Oak. Netherlands (Amsterdam?), c. 1560-1570. In 1578 this chair was owned by the burgomaster of Amsterdam, Dirck Jansz de Graeff. Tradition has it that William of Orange then sat in it when he visited Amsterdam. This 'historical fact' is recorded on a metal plate which De Graeff's descendants placed on the chair when they loaned it to the Koninklijk Oudheidkundig Genootschap in 1877. On loan from the De Graeff family to the Koninklijk Oudheidkundig Genootschap.
