Set of mukozuke

anoniem, c. 1670 - c. 1690

The VOC ordered a great deal of porcelain in Japan, but occasionally Japanese patrons commissioned pottery made in Delft. These were small plates or dishes, mukozuke, which were used for the light meal preceding the tea ceremony. The Japanese tea master could cut a dash for his guests with these exclusive goods from the faraway Low Countries.
