Bacchanal of Putti, Johann Georg Kern, 1663
This German–Antwerp ceremonial tankard with a bacchanal of chubby putti pokes fun at the drinking habits of adults. The ivory-carving comes from Germany. Soon after its completion, the ivory was taken to Antwerp, where it was transformed into a ceremonial tankard. The decoration of the silver mount perfectly complements that of the ivory.
