In the 17th and 18th centuries, fathers wore a special, extra fine house cap after the birth of their child: a kraamherenmuts. It was worn for ten days after the birth, a period when family and friends were received. The black bowler hat was probably worn by a woman for horse riding at the beginning of the 20th century.
