Jacket with square patterned fabric, Denise Vandervelde-Borgeaud, c. 1935
The pattern of squares and the intriguing use of lines made this jacket cutting-edge in its day. The sleeves are cut in one piece with the sloping upper panels, to which the lower panels are attached. The tailored effect is visually enhanced by the pattern of the fabric. The jacket, worn by G.A. Brusse-Urtebise, was probably bought at Denise Vandervelde-Bourgeaud’s fashion house in Brussels.
