cotton (textile), h 20cm × d 18cm. More details

In the 17th century, it became fashionable for young fathers to wear a special, richly decorated, cap when a child was born. This would be worn during the first ten days after the birth, the period during which friends and relatives would come to visit. These special caps continued to be worn well into the 18th century.
