Brisé fan

Huchong, c. 1800 - c. 1825

A fan made from a single material is called a brisé fan. Most of them came from Canton and were adorned with Chinese landscapes or scenes from daily life. The fans came in special boxes made of thick paper bearing the name or mark of the ivory-carver.
