Two Salt-Cellars, Johannes Lutma (1584-1669), 1639
The stem of these salt-cellars is formed as a boy borne by a dolphin. Lutma is consciously inviting comparison with Adam van Vianen, who had also made salt-cellars and cups with stems featuring human figures. The bases are composed of auricular ornament, and the shell-like dishes each terminate in a kwab-like monster’s head.
