Flower Vase (cuvette Mahon)

The design of this vase, reminiscent of a boat, carries political significance and commemorates the French conquest of the port city of Mahon on Minorca at the beginning of the Seven Years’ War (1756-1763). The flowing, rounded design is the creation of Jean Claude Duplessis, a talented goldsmith and sculptor who had been the artistic director at the porcelain manufactory since 1748.

Description
Ovale jardiniere van veelkleurig beschilderd porselein, met een blauwgroene fond. De jardiniere heeft een geschulpte rand en naar binnen gebogen korte zijden. De vier poten hebben de vorm van bladeren in rocaille-vorm en zijn deels verguld. Op beide lange zijden is een medaillon geschilderd een met een Teniers-scene: vier mannen en een vrouw rond een tafel voor een huis en in de ander bloemen en vruchten.
