Pair of wall lights
anonymous, c. 1780 - c. 1785
The airy, elegant style of these wall lights is characteristic of the 1780s. The rams’ heads, the thyrsus (staff wound with laurel branches) and the bunches of grapes refer to Bacchus, the god of wine. Wall lights of this particular model were ordered by various members of the French royal family.
