Dish

anonymous, c. 1725 - c. 1730

The various stages of silk production are depicted on the rim of this dish. In the centre, three women are seated at a table and a fourth woman is standing, holding a pot of tea. This is an early example of a famille rose plate: porcelain painted with pink enamel. Famille rose became one of the most popular forms of porcelain imported to Europe in the later 18th century.
