Man’s jacket
anonymous, 1920 - 1940
The jacket’s decoration is derived from the play Chushingura, the epic tale of samurai warriors avenging the death of their master. This woman has just received a letter outlining their plan. The woven embellishments are exquisitely executed. Even the red of her cheeks and the lenses in the eyeglasses are rendered with great subtlety and fine details.
