Brahma
anonymous, 800 - 900
The Hindu deity Brahma is easy to recognize by his four faces, each directed toward one of the four cardinal directions. He is revered as the creator of the universe and is often part of the group of supreme deities who are venerated along with the great god Shiva. This sculpture is from Candi Merak, a temple of Shiva in Central Java. It was found in two pieces and restored in 1925-1926.
